Town residents have been calling for a tram for Loughborough for over a decade and now a proposal has been put forward to extend the Nottingham Express Transit NET network to Loughborough. The Loughborough Echo has this week reported that plans are being considered that would connect East Midlands Airport with Loughborough and Leicester.

The proposal has been backed by the Light Rail Transit Association, which is a not-for-profit organisation concerned with the achievement of better public transport through light rail, tramway and metro systems in towns and cities world–wide.

According to The Campaign for Better Transport trams can reduce road traffic by up to 14%, leading to lower pollution and better air quality.

The expansion of public transport is something that the Green Party is passionate about and we are excited to view full proposals once they are released.
